From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
